Welcome to the homepage of MintPPC!
MintPPC is a Linux distribution for PPC computers based on Debian sid and Linux Mint. Since recently, the website also hosts Linux Mint for ARM64 processors, especially Apple silicon.
The focus of MintPPC lies on a lightweight desktop environment with a simple and beautiful graphical layer. I chose LXDE as it is a great compromise between lightweight and functionality. On top of this comes a beautiful Mint layer and a good set of default programs which is geared towards desktop users. The header in this website shows if automated installations work at the moment. Sometimes, sid (Debian unstable) won’t allow complete installations. The header turns red then. This is to prevent users from doing useless installations.
Nobody needs introduction to Linux Mint. The port of Linux Mint to ARM64 which is hosted here has been shown to work both bare metal (directly booted from Mac) as well as in a virtual machine like Parallels Desktop. This port is based on the latest Linux Mint Debian Edition. The base is Debian Trixie. People are reminded that this port is an unofficial release, not supported by the Linux Mint Team. Support can only be asked here.
I hope you will enjoy using MintPPC and LMDE ARM64. Please become active in the community and help others in the forum.
My name is Jeroen Diederen and I am the developer of this Linux distribution. Credit goes to Linux Mint for the development of most of the code.
