Welcome to MintPPC

Ok world, here I am again. After a long break I am working on MintPPC again. I am trying to get Debian sid with an LXDE desktop transformed into a pleasant minty experience. I have to admit beforehand that installing MintPPC sid will not be as easy as in the past. Please stay tuned.

  1. Hello, are you the same person who used to run mintppc.org? Jeroen Diederen? I was a contributor of the old-world boot cd on that forum. Lubod.

I am still into Mac hardware, and open source OSes. Though sadly, Debian (except for Sid) seems to have all but abandoned the PowerPC. I’d like it to work, but the long term prospects are not good to say the least. Investigating Adelie Linux, NetBSD and others (t2tde, gentoo) as more viable long term. Lubo

    1. I’m writing this on a newly installed version of MintPPC. Using the latest Debian Sid cd-rom from April 1, 2025 and using Jeroen’s excellent Manual Installation page, I was able to install all of the files, minus mint-common, mintsystem, and brasero which are broken. Try it, you’ll like it.

      1. Excellent that it still works and thanks for reporting Thomas. You are a dedicated tester. So Debian powerpc is finally installable again after a long break. I lost interest in updating MintPPC as the base has been broken for so long and so little amount of people show interest. Good to know that at least one is able to install a functional desktop with my instructions.
I edited this page becaase you reported that the 2025.04.01 image worked.

      2. So an automated installation won’t work ? I guess not as some programs which are on the list to be installed during an automated installation don’t install.
