As CUPS has been broken for a while and a user called Poe Tam asked me to help him, I decided to build a stable version of CUPS for MintPPC32. As of now all users in MintPPC32 can install CUPS successfully.
Edit 3 May 2025
CUPS can now be safely upgraded completely to 2.4.10 as today it was possible to build the packages from source successfully.
Thanks for your effort to build the update package for CUPS, CUPS 2.4.7 can connect to localhost but I can’t find online printer in printer setting tool, after upgrade to 2.4.10 the network printer searching function works and network printer can be added automatically when I open the printer setting tool.
Glad to hear that CUPS 2.4.10 is functioning as it should be. It shows that a functioning desktop is not possible anymore with a plain Debian installation. Some packages like CUPS need to be built by hand if the Debian autobuilder fails.
Yes, after kernel 6.5 the system is not as stable as before since many lib files are not compatible with the latest kernel, such as Libreoffice / VLC / GIMP / FREECAD, they can’t be installed now due to dependencies problem or some lib files disappeared in the repo.
Which programs do you need for your work?
I use Wings3D sometimes to create model, but now OpenGL can’t detect the display driver so Wings3D can’t launch with the OpenGL issue.
I got the error when process glxinfo :
name of display: :0.0
Error: couldn’t find RGB GLX visual or fbconfig
Maybe you need to install extra packages, not sure. I am not very familiar with mesa. The following packages might be of help:
mesa-vulkan-drivers
mesa-libgallium
Mesa-vulkan-drivers and mesa-libgallium are default drivers/libs in mintppc installation, I have checked the xorg.log also, no error messages related to vga driver.
I now remember that you need mesa-amber for this. Someone in our forums installed it but without success.[1]
If someone else got it working please help.

Now mesa has updated to 24.X.X, I don’t know if the amber driver can be recognized and load.
I have check the glxinfo /glxgear error and it seems the opengl can’t detect the monitor/ vga driver using by the system.
dri drivers for ancient cards have been removed since mesa 22…
